People who feel a tremor in Western Australia (or elsewhere) are requested to report this on the Earthquake Report Form. For a list of recent Australian earthquakes, follow this link. |

West Australian seismicity - 2005 In 2005, the largest earthquakes in Western Australia were NW of Marble Bar (22 Mar, mag 4.4), east of Port Hedland (18 May, mag 4.6), west of Burakin ( 12 June, mag 4.5). The event at Burakin represents a continuation of activity in the area, which reached a peak approximately four years ago. The event east of Port Hedland was felt widely in the region. The region around Cadoux has continued to be very active seismically, with significant earthquake swarms north of Koorda (principally late May), north of Kalannie ( principally late September), and north of Beacon. WEST AUSTRALIAN EARTHQUAKES 2005, Jan01 - Sep 22 (magnitude 3.0 & above) Earthquakes in the northern Wheatbelt, 2005 3.0 - 3.9 Mauve; 4.0 -4.4 Blue; 4.5 - 4.9, Red . MAP OF WEST AUSTRALIAN EARTHQUAKES, 1997 - mar 2004BLUE - 1997 - 2000 RED - 2001 - Mar 2004 The most significant seismicity in WA of recent times was the major earthquake swarm at Burakin, approximately 200 km NE of Perth, in 2001 and 2002. Several earthquakes over magnitude 5 occurred, as well as many thousands of smaller events. Click on the link to the left for more information on this swarm |

2002
West Australian seismicity in 2002 was dominated by events from Burakin, in the Southwest seismic zone, and not far from the location of the Mag 6.1 event at Cadoux in June 1979. Note that 33 events of magnitude between 3 and 3.9 were recorded at Burakin between 10 Jan and 16 Aug 2002, but are not listed here.Click here for more information on the Burakin swarm.

Western Australian earthquakes in 2004 The largest event of the year was a magnitude 4.4 event north of Kalannie, in the south west seismic zone. This event was about 30 km east of the 1979 Mag 6.1 Cadoux earthquake. It has been followed by many smaller events, and some not-so-small. The largest aftershock was a magnitude 3.5 event on 3 Jan 2005. A magnitude 5.4 event occurred near Mt. Redvers on 11 Feb 2004, which was in the Northern Territory, but very close to the Western Australian border. This was the largest event in Australia for some years
