Seismicity of Western Australia

Schools Project

Modern technology allows contruction of functioning seismograph systems at a very modest cost. If such seismographs can be placed in schools in regions presently poorly covered by the existing seismograph network, then data useful for improving the precision of earthquake locations can be obtained.

At present, such sytems have been installed in four Australian schools. In sequence of installation, these are at Broome, WA; York, WA; Gundaroo, NSW and Mt Torrens, SA.

It is hoped to gradually add more schools to this list.  The cost of each installation is approximately (Australian) $500. For more information, or examples of earthquakes recorded at these schools, contact   vdent@cyllene.uwa.edu.au
